Background:
Tales wiki
Personality:
To the eye, Anise is a pretty normal spunky teen girl. She acts sweet, cute, carefree, and confident- She makes friends easily and is full of energy all the time, is always giggly and excitable, and tends to make a lot of jokes. Her main oddity to those who don't know her well is that she has an obsession with rich men, as she wants to marry into money. Rich? Available? Cute? If you fit at least two of those conditions, regardless of gender, prepare to have Anise talking about how she'll totally just stay at home and cook and clean while you go to work at the gold mines getting gold for her. She'll run the finances, too. Her gold-digging extends to pretty much anything that could net her a payday, provided it's not openly illegal (or at least, if it's illegal, openly arrestable).
A layer down, Anise is actually a pretty fiery person. She holds grudges easily- when she thinks Luke has screwed up and doesn't like his attitude, she takes longer than anyone else to forgive him, even after he's directly helped her with saving Ion- and is quick to anger. Whenever confronted with combat, as long as Ion isn't around, the "cute girl" facade falls away in favor of someone who will cuss like a sailor and threaten murder to everyone around her, even at the cost of the element of surprise. This rage streak fades as time goes by and she learns to work with the others, but "I'll kill you bastards!" still remains one of her favorite battle cries.
Beneath all this, however, Anise is a burdened and conflicted girl, deeply alone and afraid. Her desperate need to protect her parents has led to her having to shoulder burdens that people twice her age would struggle with, while simultaneously protecting the most valuable person in the entire world. Forced to work as a double-agent by Grand Maestro Mohs, she constantly fights with the guilt of having to choose between Ion- her most cherished person- and her parents, who she loves deeply despite their disagreements and the naivete Pamela and Oliver insist on showing. While she is truly loyal to Ion, and would do anything for him, this simply makes her guilt more palpable, and it eats away at her constantly.
While she is truly, 100% loyal to Ion, she also feels that, as a spy, she can't really be attached to anyone; she watches the others from afar, and enjoys their company, but thanks always knowing she might have to betray them at a moment's notice when Mohs says so, she doesn't think she should get too close. This hurts her more than anything, when at last Mohs calls in his favor and results in Ion's death; Anise's need to carry all her burdens alone results in their acting without a plan, and leaves them unable to stop Mohs.
Coming so soon after Ion's death, Anise is overwhelmed by guilt, and a fear that maybe all the things that have happened to the group are her fault. Her loyalty to Luke and friends is unhindered by her ties to Mohs now, but she definitely fears that they will no longer trust her; her time in Empatheias early on will not be spent learning to trust, but learning that she can be trusted, and that she must accept that some burdens are too heavy to carry alone.
Abilities:
Anise is a skilled user of fonic artes, specifically those of the First (Darkness) and Sixth (Light) fonons; she has several spells in her arsenal utilizing these two elements, giving her a wide array of attacks. In addition, she carries a small puppet named Tokunaga, which was previously a normal plushie before being enhanced by Dist. By channeling fonons through said puppet, she can increase his size, allowing her to ride on him. As his puppeteer, any motion she makes while controlling him is mimicked exactly; she can also control him without acting herself by using her rod like a marionette handle. By channeling fonons along with this she can perform devastatingly powerful physical artes as well, allowing her to use artes usually assigned to martial artists in Tales games without any training.
Finally, she also carries a staff with her, the power of which directly affects how powerful Tokunaga and her spells are, via allowing her to increase the amount of fonons being channeled through her body. Her relative talent in fonistry is never shown without Tokunaga, but it can be assumed she has no small amount of talent if she was selected as a Fon Master Guardian.
Alignment: Aiada.
Anise's entire backstory and character- indeed, nearly everything that drives her- is due to money. Her deep envy of those who are not buried in money woes leads her to do almost anything for money, and to put on extra airs of wanting to marry into money simply so she can try to pay for her parents' debt. She has a deep-seated envy that reads as "greed" to many.
On the other end of the spectrum, Anise's attachment and appreciation for those who do help her and want to be near her is immense. She is incredibly grateful to Ion for letting her be around him, and after his death she fights exclusively in his name to pay back everything he did for her despite knowing she was a spy all along.
She is right on the cusp of Piphron, as well, and depending on how her healing from Ion's death goes, she may find herself shifting alignments after a time.

Questions: I'm assuming Tokunaga as he is in canon isn't a problem? I think the app mods are familiar with Abyss but if he needs tweaking or explanation lemme know.
